The South Denver Historic Museum inspires curiosity, connection, and discovery by preserving, protecting, and sharing art, culture, and history that reflects the diverse spirit of South Denver and related history and culture in Colorado.

VISION STATEMENT

The South Denver Historic Museum envisions a lively and dynamic community hub that unites diverse visitors of all ages and empowers the community to honor our past, explore new ideas, and actively shape the future through learning and inspiration.

STATUS

We are a 501(c)(3) Non-profit within the State of Colorado. We are currently seeking our tax exemption status which can take up to 6 months.

BACKGROUND

A rare and remarkable opportunity has emerged that would allow the South Denver community to fulfill a long-standing dream: the creation of a historic museum within Denver’s South Broadway corridor.

This vision is being led by residents of Lincoln Street, West Wash Park and Baker who have long advocated for the preservation and celebration of South Denver’s rich and often overlooked history. When one neighbor learned of a long-vacant, yet highly admired home at 749 S. Lincoln Street was at risk of demolition due to the City of Denver’s derelict home initiative, one neighbor reached out to the out-of-state owner with a bold question: “Would you ever consider donating your house to become a museum?”  To her surprise, the owner’s answer was “Yes”.

Though unconventional, this neighbor-to-neighbor conversation has sparked a genuine collaboration between the owner, local leaders, and community advocates. They are all working urgently and in good faith to make this vision real. The result is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to preserve a meaningful historic structure, activate a neglected corner of our city, and build a cultural anchor for the South Broadway corridor. And all of this comes just as the National Women’s Soccer League stadium and broader redevelopment efforts with this area promise to bring new energy and tourism to South Broadway.
